Biblioteconomia critica e inclusiva: teorie, pratiche e prospettive
This volume offers the first systematic overview of critical librarianship in Italy, understood as that branch of librarianship that aims to reflect on social justice and its application in the field of librarianship.
Although the term “critical librarianship” has been present in the international debate since at least 2007, a comprehensive treatment of the topic has been lacking in the Italian librarianship context. The book fills this gap by outlining, in the first part, the semantic scope of critical librarianship, its evolution, and its connections with concepts such as diversity, equity, inclusion, decolonization, and sustainable development.
The second part analyzes how this perspective is applied in the main areas of library activity, from collection development to cataloging and metadata of bibliographic resources, from literacies to reading promotion policies, and concludes with a look at the future challenges and opportunities for critical librarianship.
