Info and services
Access to Centro di Documentazione “Flavia Madaschi” is free.
In order to borrow books and audiovisual materials, you must register to the Bolognese library pole through the free card of Bologna Municipality Librarian Institution.
You can enroll if you have a valid ID document (driver’s licence, passport, or ID card) and:
– Italian residency
– Housing in Italy since at least 90 days
You can enroll immediately after birth. Minors must bring the written authorization of a parent or parental responsibility holder along with the photocopy of an ID document through the designated form that can be downloaded here.
In order to enroll you can either reach a library in person or do so through the personal services page of the SBN UBO catalogue. You will see the “My library account” button on the top right, and by clicking on any of the options you will receive on-screen instructions to register and receive the personal code that will allow you to access services.
Once enrolled, you will receive a personal card valid in all Bologna Municipality libraries.
If you are a transgender person, or you do not identify with your designated gender at birth, you can ask libraries within the Bolognese Library Pole for the activation of an alias identity which provides, according to self-determination principles, the possibility to obtain enrollment to library services with an elective identity of your own choice.
You can request the activation of an alias identity anytime:
- if you attend to the University of Bologna and you have already obtained an alias career, the faculty will finalize the practices of enrollment to library services in your stead;
- if you are not a university student but you want to access library services with an alias identity, you can contact the library alias identity Office (at the Library and Cultural Welfare Sector of Bologna Municipality) by writing an email to identitaaliasbiblioteche@comune.bologna.it and you will receive an answer within 30 days to conduct the practices. No medical documentation (such as a diagnosis or psychological reports) is required for the process.
After the activation, you can regularly attend the library services of all libraries within the Bolognese Library Pole with your alias identity. The activation lasts 12 months. Once it is about to expire, the Library alias identity Office will send you a communication in order to confirm or update your legal data, and receive another 12 months renewal if necessary.
Identification process in the library:
card from the SBN UBO App with your alias identity, if it is accompanied by a picture.
You will never be asked for an ID document in the library!
